![]() A J-Herringbone Deluxe Cutaway Mary Chapin Carpenter owns a Greven J and says of it: "I have a lot of people comment to me about how pure my number one Greven sounds...it sounds so woody and clean. And the interesting thing is that I have the same pickup set up in all of the other guitars, but the number one Greven sounds the best of them all..." Acoustic Guitar Magazine /May 1992 |
Herringbone Deluxe
Models are more elaborate than the Herringbones.
Their appointments include headstock and fingerboard
bound to match the body bindings, more complex inlays,
and an abalone rosette along with the Herringbone top
trim and gold tuners. The J pictured to the left is one
of my most requested guitars. To date, I have made over
450 of them, primarily for my Japanese clients. This
flamed maple instrument has the "bird" inlay
pattern with an eagle under my pearl banner on the
headstock. This customer chose the optional sharp
Florentine style cutaway for greater access to the upper
frets. A smaller pickguard may be subtituted for the
large one pictured.
Spalted maple bridge pins close-up I use the Waverly ivoroid bridge pins on all of my guitars, inlaying the dots myself. The dots are available in Tor-tis tortoiseshell, abalone, and (as above) exotic woods, like the spalted bigleaf maple shown here. (Return to STYLES page.) |
