While at Gruhn’s, we re-topped a number of the Martin F series arch top guitars from the “30's and found the resulting flat-top to be an excellent finger style guitar. It might be called a OM on steroids for its huge voice and outstanding clarity. I built my first from scratch F flat top in 1973 and it rapidly became one of my most popular models.
John Denver called me in 1984 and asked to have me make a pair of White Lady style F models, one a 12 string and the other, the guitar pictured, a six string. He used both guitars extensively for stage performances and recording. The 12 string was accidentally destroyed when John ran over it with his SUV, but the six string is alive and well and now resides in Colorado. The sound clip is a modern recording of this very guitar.
