Here is a photo of the abalone top trim from another guitar with rosewood bindings. I use a very fine line of abalone (.040 inch wide) because it adds color and sparkle without being garish. |
The D on the right is a Presentation grade guitar with Brazilian rosewood body and custom inlays with a fanciful dragon/castle motif. The headstock is an abalone dragon curling around the crescent moon and banner. The upper part of the fingerbaoard is a protrait of a lady with flowing abalone hair. Then tiny pearl birds fly down the fingerboard to float over the castle inlaid at the base of the neck over the body. Abalone trim surrounds the top, back, sides, fingerboard, neck joint and end pin wedge as well as the headstock. Mother of pearl tuning buttons were added to finish it off! And despite all of that eye candy, it sounded excellent! The Castle
